Family Dollar settles another Store Manager overtime case!

Family Dollar webpage

Family Dollar Stores, the giant retail store based in North Carolina, has settled another Store Manager overtime lawsuit, this time in New Jersey.

These claims started back in 2000 when a Store Manager named Barbara Morgan sued Family Dollar for overtime in Alabama.  A jury returned a verdict of $54 million dollars, agreeing with Morgan that the primary duties of Family Dollar Store Managers was not management, but instead was stocking shelves, unloading trucks and ringing the cash register.

Subsequently, lawsuits around the country have been filed, including in New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Colorado, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin

Family Dollar has settled many of these lawsuits, including most recently New Jersey.  Other lawsuits remain pending, including one in Massachusetts.  The Massachusetts Store Managers are being represented by the Boston law firm of Lichten and Liss-Riordan and the Hartford, Connecticut law firm of Hayber, McKenna & Dinsmore, LLC.
